Discover The Boathouse – A Fresh Take on a Fish Restaurant in Northern Ireland

Located on the tranquil shores of Lough Neagh, The Boathouse is proud to offer a dining experience that blends the richness of Northern Ireland’s larder with a love of fresh, seasonal ingredients. We offer so many local fish and seafood choices on our menu in our restaurant in Antrim, Northern Ireland thanks to our prime waterside location and commitment to seafood and yet we offer so much more. Our menu also features carefully prepared meat dishes, comforting vegetarian options, and a strong focus on local produce – giving our guests a well-rounded, flavourful experience, no matter their preference.

Still, it’s no secret that our close proximity to Lough Neagh, and easy access to fresh Irish waters, makes seafood a natural highlight. Over the years, seafood has become one of the most celebrated aspects of our menu — and for good reason. We work with trusted suppliers to ensure we serve only the best, from Galway Bay mussels to locally smoked fish and hand-prepared shellfish dishes. Below, we take you through some of the standout seafood options from our Summer 2025 menus.  You can view our full menu of course by clicking here.

  • Seafood Chowder

A hearty, flavour-packed favourite. Our seafood chowder is made with crispy chorizo, smoked coley, salmon, haddock, and mussels, all brought together in a creamy broth that’s both warming and deeply satisfying. Served with fresh bread, it’s the perfect main course for anyone who wants a true taste of the sea.

  • Mediterranean Seabass Schnitzel

A whole fillet of seabass, breadcrumbed with a herb crust, and served with a Greek salad, saffron-poached potatoes, aromatic butter, and house tartar. This dish is a delightful nod to Mediterranean flavours while honouring the freshness and simplicity of locally sourced fish.

  • Traditional Fish and Chips

A classic done right. Our take on fish and chips features fresh white fish in a golden batter, double-cooked chips, mushy peas, and our signature tartar sauce. Crispy on the outside, flaky inside – it’s comfort food at its finest, and a Boathouse staple.

  • Mussels (Galway Bay)

We’re proud to serve Galway Bay mussels, known across Ireland for their sweetness, plump texture, and exceptional quality. Cooked with shallot and fennel, then finished in your choice of sauce (cream, garlic, white wine, or tomato-based), this dish is accompanied by our homemade bread for dipping into those rich juices.

  • Seafood Tagliatelle

For those who love depth and richness, our seafood tagliatelle delivers on every front. Served in a rich marinara sauce with fennel, fresh lemon herbs, and packed with salmon, smoked cod, coley, mussels, and prawns, it’s a dish that’s as comforting as it is elegant.

Popular Seafood Starters

If you’d rather begin with something light to whet the appetite, our starters menu offers a few absolute gems:

  • Seafood Frito Misto: A crisp and golden medley of calamari, prawns, and cod bites, served with a vibrant lemon and pepper aioli.

  • Classic Prawn Cocktail: A refreshing starter of baby gem lettuce, cherry tomatoes, pickled cucumber, Marie Rose sauce, and our own wheaten bread. A timeless favourite, elevated with the best local ingredients.

We also have a starter special each day.  The above photo showcases a Stuffed half pepper with Mediterranean Cous Cous, Scallop, Lemon and Garlic King Prawn from June 2025.

Pairing the Perfect Drink

Local Produce at the Heart of Every Dish

At The Boathouse, quality is non-negotiable. We are proud to use Northern Irish produce wherever possible — not just in our seafood, but in our vegetables, meats, and dairy. This not only supports local farmers and suppliers, but it ensures every plate that leaves our kitchen is fresh, seasonal, and rich in flavour.
